How we source case dimensions

Accurate outer dimensions are the foundation of the Case Lab. We combine multiple sources because no single database lists every regional SKU, color variant, or silent revision of a case. Our goal is to show the best available data at lookup time, and to be explicit about where it came from.

We are not a manufacturer and do not have access to internal CAD for every product. When sources disagree, we surface that disagreement rather than silently picking one number.

Source priority

When you search by name, we query structured databases first. CaseEnd and BuildCores Open DB index many ITX and SFF cases with outer dimensions and often product imagery. These are community-maintained catalogs; they are usually accurate but not infallible.

When you paste a product URL, we extract dimensions from that specific page, manufacturer or retailer. This is useful for new releases not yet indexed in databases. Automated extraction can misread units or confuse package size with product size; always verify critical fits.

Confidence and disputes

When multiple sources agree within tolerance, confidence is high. When they diverge, different length by more than a few millimeters, Case Lab may show a dimension dispute with both values and their sources. We do not automatically average conflicting numbers; averaging hides the risk.

Source notes on each case row explain the origin of the displayed dimensions. If you see “medium” confidence, treat it as a prompt to double-check before purchase.

Web lookups when databases miss

Some lookups parse web pages or search snippets to find dimensions when databases lack an entry. These are labeled in source notes. Results can be wrong or misread tables. Check the manufacturer spec sheet before you buy.

Your responsibility as a builder

Manufacturing tolerances, optional panels, feet, handles, and regional SKUs can change real-world size without changing the marketing name. Confirm on the official spec sheet before ordering, and share corrections in Community when you find better data.
